Magdalena Stern-Baczewska (BaCHEVska),
Magdalena Stern-Baczewska, the Director of Columbia’s Music Performance Program and Lecturer in Music, is also an award-winning concert pianist, harpsichordist, and recording artist, sharing the stage with noted musicians such as Tan Dun and Joshua Bell. Baczewska has performed, among others, at Carnegie Hall (New York), the Davies Symphony Hall (San Francisco), the National Center for Performing Arts (Beijing), the Salle Cortot (Paris), Moores Opera House (Houston), and Steinway Hall (New York), and more recently the Guangzhou Opera House and Shenzhen PolyTheater in China. She is a laureate of numerous piano competitions and recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Minister of Culture in Poland, her birthland. Her latest album containing works of Chopin and Szymanowski will be released this year by the French label Paraty.
