Three Archives in Conversation
Entre Nous Series

Archives are imagined to be well-ordered places of safe-keeping; but most discoveries are made in unsuspected and unordered repositories of the past. Lynnette WidderJoão Pina, and Mila Turajlić will discuss how archives have acted as a catalyst for their work – archives neglected by history, maintained by families, sequestered in institutions, left behind in unculled bequests. This event will be held in English.

The Entre Nous series is co-organized by Columbia Global Centers | Paris, the Institute for Ideas and Imagination, and The American Library in Paris.

Lovebirds: Avian Erotic Entanglements in Medieval French and Occitan Literature
Institute for Ideas and Imagination

This talk by Eliza Zingesser investigates the ways in which medieval eroticism was made possible by birds. Rather than being "mere" symbols of love, Professor Zingesser argues that birds performed actual work with respect to the erotic experience. This discussion will take place in English.

This event is part of the SNF Rendez-Vous de l'Institut: The Fellows' Series organized by the Institute for Ideas and Imagination. It is co-sponsored by Columbia Global Centers | Paris.

Thinking Translation

Join renowned theorist and author of Living Translation Gayatri Spivak for a conversation with the book's editor, Emily Apter, about approaching the comparative humanities as a site of translation. Tara Heuzé-Sarmini and Ruben Petri have been working from Reid Hall to launch Commune, a startup applying the idea of communal living to single parents with young children. They were recently honored in Wired Magazine's "100 Hottest Startups in Europe in 2022"Commune plans to open its first location in Paris early next year.
