Jacqueline de Jong

Private Art Gallery Visit Series

November 7th, 2024 @ Galerie Allen

Columbia alumni were welcomed by Galerie Allen co-founder Joseph Allen Shea for a private guided tour of the last works by Dutch Situationist artist Jacqueline de Jong (1939-2024).

Jacqueline de Jong was forced to flee Holland during World War II and her early life was marked by social upheaval. Her publishing, painting and sculptures have spanned over six decades, in which motifs of eroticism, desire, violence and humour recur with an irrepressible progression switching between different styles; from expressionist painting to new figuration and pop art and constantly reinventing herself while adhering to her pioneering personal vision.

De Jong’s recent and last works (before her passing in June) were shown.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Many art enthusiasts among our alumni have expressed a desire to explore contemporary art and understand the process of building an art collection, often wondering, “Where do I even begin?”

This series was created to address these questions and more. Each visit includes a guided tour led by an artist or curator, followed by a discussion at a Paris art gallery. It provides a unique opportunity for alumni and galleries to connect, fostering meaningful relationships around the world of contemporary art.
