ABOUT THE ARTIST / EXHIBITION

Winter Sun at Thaddaeus Ropac Paris Marais marks American artist Jordan Casteel’s (b. 1989, Denver) first exhibition in France and her most significant presentation in Europe to date. Featuring new paintings created from 2025 to 2026, the exhibition explores the delicate balance between loss and renewal, darkness and light, through Casteel’s deeply moving portraits, landscapes, and floral still lifes. Known for her intimate, dignified portrayals of people and the communities around her, Casteel expands her practice to embrace the personal experience of motherhood and the rhythms of domestic life, drawing connections between caring for others, cultivating a garden, and making art. Rendered in rich, evocative colours inspired by the light of winter, these works celebrate the beauty of everyday encounters while reflecting on family, memory, mortality, and the enduring hope found in acts of love and care.
