ABOUT THE ARTIST / EXHIBITION
Dame Tracey Emin (b. 1963, London) is one of Britain’s most prominent contemporary artists and a leading figure associated with the Young British Artists of the 1990s. Raised in Margate, she studied at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art and developed a highly autobiographical practice encompassing drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, film, photography, embroidery, neon and text. Her work explores intimacy, sexuality, love, loss, mortality, memory and the female body, often transforming intensely personal experiences into direct and emotionally charged art. Emin represented Great Britain at the 2007 Venice Biennale and was elected a Royal Academician that year; she was appointed Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy in 2011 and received a damehood in 2024 for services to art. Her best-known works include My Bed (1998), and her work has been the subject of major exhibitions at Tate Modern, the Royal Academy, Musée d’Orsay, Munchmuseet and Palazzo Strozzi.
White Cube presents a solo exhibition of works by Tracey Emin, coinciding with the 2026 edition of Art Basel Paris. Bringing together intimately sized bronze sculptures and new paintings, the exhibition explores themes of desire, forbidden love and the plaintive anguish wrought from their complexities.
Expanding on her 2024 exhibition ‘I followed you to the end’ at White Cube Bermondsey, Emin’s latest works interweave autobiographical elements throughout, featuring depictions of figures in the throes of becoming, scenes from the artist’s home in Margate with her beloved cats, and her experience with life-threatening illness and loss.
