ABOUT THE ARTIST

Maxime Riché (b. 1982, France) is an artist-researcher and photographer whose work explores humanity’s resistance to physical and philosophical limits—and the impact this has on the world’s habitability. Through what he calls speculative documentary, he reveals the “possibles already there,” prompting reflection on the choices that shape our future. His work often examines landscape, bodies, and our shared relationship to place.

In 2020–2021, Maxime traveled to Paradise, California, devastated by the Camp Fire, to create a poetic meditation on resilience and regeneration. His book Paradise was published in 2024 by André Frère Éditions.

He was artist-in-residence at La Capsule (2023–2024) and a recipient of a European Journalism Fund grant for his ongoing work on nuclear cultural heritage. A member of the Tendance Floue collective, his work has received numerous awards, including the Prix Dahinden (2024) and Prix Maison Blanche (2022), and he is a three-time Prix Pictet nominee. An engineer by training (École Centrale, Columbia University, University of Cambridge), Maxime is currently a doctoral researcher at CY Cergy Paris Université / ENSAPC.
